Homes Around the World - Draw, Color and Write

Homes Around the World - Draw, Color and Write a Storyhas been designed to be a cross-curricular resources (Language Arts and Social Studies) for 2nd-3rd graders and can be used while studying different cultures or during geography studies.

There are 9 different types of homes included and can be used for 9 different lessons!
Adobe - building made of sun-dried earth are common throughout the world (Middle East, Western Asia, North Africa, West Africa, South America, southwestern North America, Spain, and Eastern Europe.)
Chalet - a type of building or house, typical of the Alpine region in Europe. 
Hut - a primitive dwelling, which may be constructed of various local materials such as wood, stone, grass, palm leaves, branches, hides, fabric, or mud using techniques passed down through the generations and often found in regions of the Amazon and throughout Africa.
Japanese Minka - a traditional Japanese home 
Palace - Used throughout the world but the style depicted in this resource most resembles a palace that would be found in the Middle East and India.
Spanish Colonial - Mostly found in regions of Hispanic cultures
Tipi - cone-shaped tent, traditionally made of animal skins upon wooden poles and used by indigenous people of the Plains in the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies of North America, as well as by indigenous peoples of northern Europe and Asia under other names
Yaranga - a tent-like traditional mobile home of some nomadic Northern indigenous peoples of Russia, such as Chukchi and Siberian Yupik
Yurt - a portable, round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling (mainly) by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia.

On each page, you'll find a different type of dwelling. Students will have plenty of room to add to each picture and then color the pictures before writing.

Different ways to use these pages. The stories you assign to students can be fictional stories or you may ask students to research and write about the types of homes, the people and culture(s) where these homes are found or to write about that region.
