Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It is a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Here is a FREE Veterans Day Freebie from CHSH-Teach.com that is designed to help your children and students focus their attention on a veteran that they personally know (or perhaps a family member that has passed).

Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. Formerly known as Armistice Day, it was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday through the Act of 1938 to honor the end of World War I.

In 1954, having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, Nov. 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

Whether you are planning a long thematic study around Veterans Day or simply want some 'fun' pages to incorporate into your lesson plans, here is a free Veterans Day Unit download. Preview the Veterans Day Unit
