LIFTING A TWENTY POUND TURKEY CAN BE GOOD EXERCISE

IS THIS HOW YOU SHOP?

  • Lift that turkey into your cart – of course, you picked the biggest one, right?
  • Three gallons of milk is next. How can we drink so much milk?
  • Oh, that’s right, we need a gallon of vinegar.
  • Thank goodness for the small things, yogurt, eggnog, cheese.
  • On to check out
  • Here we go again, lift that turkey, three gallons of milk, one gallon of vinegar and the small things.
  • All paid, now to put everything back in the cart, turkey, milk, vinegar, and the small things.
  • Out to the car, and you lift them all into the car.
  • Finally home and once again you lift that 20-pound turkey, three gallons of milk, a gallon of vinegar, and the small things.

Do you realize that you lifted everything five times? Sounds more like a workout than a shopping trip.

That’s how I used to shop.

THEN I MET MARY ANN

NOW I SHOP LIKE THIS

  • Get a cup of coffee and sit down at my computer.
  • Put all my groceries in my online cart.
  • I keep open tabs for another local store so I can compare prices.
  • Pay for them and tell them when I want to pick them up.
  • I drive to Walmart.
  • Mary Ann puts that 20-pound turkey, three gallons of milk, a gallon of vinegar, and the small stuff into my car.
  • In five minutes I’m on my way home to unload everything.
  • I lift it all once, put it away, and I’m done!

JUST THINK OF THE ADVANTAGES

  • Time saved
  • Less impulse buying
  • Money saved by being able to check prices before purchasing
  • Less lifting
  • Less getting cold or wet – I live in MN
  • No looking for a good parking spot
  • Saved energy for fun things instead of all that lifting

WHAT ABOUT

  • Prescriptions
  • Shopping you want to do for yourself
  • Produce
  • Returns

Even if I have to go into the store to get a prescription, or pick up some things that I want to shop for myself, I still order my heavy things to pick up. It still saves me time and effort.

I’ve begun to order my produce from the pickup – you can check it before it’s put in your car and not get it if it isn’t what you want.

If they don’t have what you ordered, for instance, a three-pound bag of broccoli flowers. They gave me 3 one-pound bags for the price of the three-pound bag.

The links to Walmart pickup are referral links. I will get $10 if you sign up. But so will you after your first order. It’s a win-win.

"Elijah and George" Historical Fiction Film

Tags: Revolutionary War George Washington Battle of Monmouth Family Friendly Independent Film Family Freedom Home

When I was 3, I begged my mom to teach me how to read, and she did. As I approached school age, my parents weren't sure what grade to put me in, so they decided to homeschool me... and, eventually, my 6 younger siblings. Growing up, I read voraciously, devouring books of many different genres and lengths. Some of my favorites were historical fiction (especially the American Adventure series) and what I call "Biblical fiction" (books like "The Big Fisherman," '"The Robe," "The Bronze Bow," and the Arnold Ytreeide Advent storybooks). These books made important events come alive for me, with the historical figures becoming relatable and human.

Fast-forward almost 2 decades. My parents are still homeschooling my younger siblings, and I just graduated from Liberty University with a degree in Cinematic Arts (aka filmmaking). People often ask what movie inspired me to get into filmmaking. I realized eventually that it wasn't any movie. It was the books I had read growing up. When I read, I imagined the people and events of the story vividly, essentially creating a movie in my head. Filmmaking, I've discovered, allows me to share with others the stories I picture in my mind.

Now I'm working as a producer on a brand-new historical fiction feature film called "Elijah and George." This family-friendly movie is based on the book "George Washington's Army and Me," written and illustrated by Michael Dooling.  “Elijah and George” is an adventurous, at-times humorous story of family, freedom, and home set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War. When young Elijah’s father does not return from the Battle of Monmouth, Elijah sets out alone to find him.

In an age of divisive politics, political correctness, and other factions, this story celebrates wholesome, unifying values: the beauty of a loving family, the resilience of the human spirit as father and son fight to get back to each other, and the goodness of freedom and home.

“Elijah and George” brings to light several important pieces of Revolutionary history, focusing on the women and children who followed the Continental Army and supported the soldiers. It includes accurate portrayals of characters such as Mary Hays (aka Molly Pitcher), Oneida Indian Polly Cooper, and teenage soldier Joseph Plumb Martin alongside the more well-known figures of General George Washington, General Charles Lee, and Lt. Col. Alexander Hamilton, etc. We have several historical experts on board as advisors to ensure accuracy in every aspect of the film, and the original story is based on letters and diaries from the period.

So, how can you see this film? Right now we are in the funding and development stage. We have a completed screenplay and many of our principal roles have been cast. We are pursuing funding through multiple channels, including crowdfunding! All donations through our “For the People, By the People” Network for Good crowdfunding page are tax deductible. Every dollar is helpful and greatly appreciated!

We also have some wonderful educational resources available as perks for our donors!

Please feel free to share with friends and family! Thank you for helping us bring this important story to life to spark the interest of more young people in our nation's history!

Three Days out of the House Tags: home homemaker housewife mother wife

Three Days Out Of The House

Three days in a row out of the house is very unusual for me. I usually spend most of Sunday at church and with family or friends. Then I’m home until Thursday when I run errands while my daughters teach for a homeschool mom.

I LIKE IT THIS WAY.

  • The above graphic is how I picture myself.
  • A little old fashioned,  but comfortable with who I am.
  • I enjoy being home.
  • Cooking and baking are two things I really enjoy doing for my family.
  • Cleaning isn’t always enjoyable, but it is very satisfying for me.
  • When I’m home I have time to write to you guys, which is also something I really enjoy. 🙂

OVERSCHEDULED

  • Somehow I managed to book myself to be away most of three days in a row.
  • They were all good things, necessary things, but I would rather have been home for most of that time.
  • Lunch with my new daughter-in-law was great!
  • I almost felt giddy this morning when I realized I would be alone all morning and at home.

CONTENTMENT

  • It isn’t overrated.
  • Being content with who you are and what the Lord has called you to do is a gift.
  • Sure, there was a time when I wasn’t so content.
  • I’m grateful that the Lord has changed my heart.

How about you? Are you characterized by being content? That doesn’t mean you are always content, but that most of the time you are. Let me know your ideas on contentment in the comments.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” 1Ti 6:6-8 KJV
